Esther King, Amethyst Coaching

Esther is a qualified Business and Personal Coach with a particular interest in motivation. What motivates us to take action, what holds us back from that action. How do you motivate yourself to achieve something you want (weight loss say) when you don't like the means of getting there (dieting say)? Well maybe that's the problem you've been hitting - you don't. So the question instead is how do you get around that?

I had not been involved in coaching on weight loss until I met Diana. Part of the reason was that as I had never had to seriously diet I felt that I might not have credibility in that area, but also because I'm not sure how anyone can motivate themselves to deprive themselves on an ongoing basis - unless it is a matter of life or death, or maybe for a particularly important occasion. Also, of course, I was aware of how dieting just doesn't seem to work long term. Diana changed all that because what she said made sense. Now I could understand that maintaining a healthy weight is not to do with dieting but with understanding about nutrition - and therefore how your body is reacting. It's also about understanding how your mind is reacting to various cues to do with eating, and it's about setting up patterns and making adjustments that, over time, allow you to get to a healthy weight and maintain it. This way of handling it also allows you to work in having those 'unhealthy' treats so that you don't feel deprived - and you can eat them without feeling guilty. Now I do have credibility for coaching on all of this, through whatever circumstances, I just happen to operate that way anyway. So that's my part of the workshop, how to make the changes that you need to and how to keep them going until they become habits. I use practical tools and some NLP techniques.
